The fatal stabbing of Afghanistan War Veteran Army Sargent Hason Correa occurred on the night of Friday October 19, 2018. Sargent Correa leaves behind Mother Madeline Blame, a wife and three children.
Brothers; Christopher and James Saunders, were accused of the fatal stabbing of Hason Correa; with Travis Stewart, charged as an accomplice in the murder.
Sister, Mary Saunders, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, and first-degree gang assault charges for her role in the stabbing.
Christopher and James Saunders were both convicted, and are serving 20-year sentences in prison, while Travis Stewart; who assisted in the assault, was sentenced to seven years in prison for the same charge.
Mary Saunders was released from prison in May 2022 on time served after spending 14 months at Rikers Island.
Police said Mary Saunders held Mr. Correa down while Christopher Saunders, James Saunders, and Travis Stewart assaulted and ultimately caused his death.
According to court records, James Saunders, took out a knife and stabbed Mr. Correa nine times.
